Teachers at Kenneth Clement Elementary School in Cleveland returned to the school parking lot Friday to find several of their cars with smashed windows, the latest in a string of vehicle break-ins targeting educators in the city.
Cleveland Teachers Union president Errol Savage said multiple staff vehicles were damaged while parked at the school near East 118th Street and Superior Avenue. Nothing valuable was reported stolen, but broken glass remained scattered in the lot days later.
The incident follows a similar wave of break-ins at Sunbeam School last month that left staff shaken enough that absences forced a canceled school day. Union leaders say the pattern has educators worried about their safety on school property.
The union has formally asked Cleveland police to run mobile patrols around schools during school hours to protect staff vehicles and deter further vandalism. Police have not announced any arrests in the Kenneth Clement case, and the investigation remains open.
School district officials did not immediately say what additional security steps are planned for the Kenneth Clement campus as teachers push for a quicker response.
